🕊️ The Child's Answer
TWO-MINUTE MONK
Ancient wisdom for modern life, every Monday.
🧘 Monk Thought
“What is the path?
The child replied:
The sound of the wind in the trees.”
— Traditional Zen anecdote
💡 Monk Light
A monk once asked a child: “What is the path?”
The child didn’t explain scriptures, discipline, or rules.
He simply pointed to the wind moving through the trees.
Stillness, presence, awakening—sometimes adults make them heavy with effort.
But to the child, it was obvious:
The path is already here, whispering.
You don’t have to build it.
You only have to notice.
Takari Kikaku (1661-1707) was a disciple of Matsuo Bashō, and was still very young when he began composing.
👣 Monk Move
Today, stop once.
Listen for the wind, a bird, or even the hum of a passing car.
Say softly:
“The path is here.”
And let it be enough.
🔐 The Monk Vault is now open.

The weekly post from the Monk will always be free but at some point in the future, I will create a small subscription of no more than £2 per month to access the Vault to see previous posts and get extra material. For now, though, the Vault remains open and free. Enjoy!
