Ancient wisdom for modern life, every Monday.

🧘 Monk Thought

ā€œYou have power over your mind — not outside events.
Realize this, and you will find strength.ā€

— Marcus Aurelius

šŸ’” Monk Light

The emperor of Rome lived surrounded by wars, politics, betrayals, and death.

And yet his journal—scribbled at night in tents and palaces—returned to a single truth:

Control the inner, release the outer.

Most suffering begins when we try to master what isn’t ours: the weather, other people, chance.

But strength begins when we return to what is ours: the lens, the response, the mind.

That is the citadel no storm can breach.

Marcus Aurelius (121–180 CE) was a Roman emperor and Stoic philosopher.

šŸ‘£ Monk Move

Today, when something unsettles you, pause.

Say quietly:

ā€œThis is outside me. But my mind is mine.ā€

And stand a little taller inside your citadel.

šŸ” The Monk Vault is now open.
You can find all the previous posts by the Two-Minute Monk in the Vault. The weekly post from the Monk will always be free but at some point in the future, I will create a small subscription of no more than £2 per month to access the Vault to see previous posts and get extra material. For now, though, the Vault remains open and free. Enjoy!
