Ancient wisdom for modern life, every Monday.

🧘 Monk Thought

ā€œSitting quietly,
doing nothing,
spring comes,
and the grass grows by itself.ā€

— Matsuo Bashō

šŸ’” Monk Light

Bashō lived what he wrote, a wandering monk with few possessions, writing poems as he moved through mountains and rain.

This verse isn’t about laziness.

It’s about trust.

Life unfolds whether or not we push.

The grass doesn’t ask permission to grow.

The lesson: stop forcing what’s already becoming.

Sit quietly, do nothing—and notice what still moves.

Matsuo Bashō (1644–1694) was a Japanese haiku master.

šŸ‘£ Monk Move

Today, take one minute to stop doing.

No fixing, no checking, no planning.

Say softly:

ā€œThe grass grows by itself.ā€

Then let it.

You can find all the previous posts by the Two-Minute Monk in the Vault. The weekly post from the Monk will always be free but at some point in the future, I will create a small subscription of no more than £2 per month to access the Vault to see previous posts and get extra material. For now, though, the Vault remains open and free. Enjoy!
